Welcome to the world of Aromatherapy and plant wisdom. This practice and medicine have been part of our history for thousands of years. As we continue to see more knowledge, posts, and uses of essential oils in our day-to-day, we’d love to share how they contribute to our lives
whole-listically. Through mind, body, and spirit.
Aromatic plants carry many purposes. Their oils are extracted from various plant parts (seeds, roots, leaves, flowers, wood, etc.) providing a variety of healing properties when absorbed through the skin, and/or inhalation.
How it works: The scent molecules travel through nerves directly to the olfactory
system, our amygdala (emotional centre), offering therapeutic benefits. From
cleansing air quality, aiding in spiritual practices, relieving headaches, calming
down anxiety and depression.
Electric or Ceramic diffusers are a simple, safe, and favored way to feel the effects of essential oils. This is done through inhalation. A great example would be the immediate calm we feel upon entering a spa.
Lavender can promote relaxation, calming both you and the energy of your space. Peppermint can enhance our mood, providing an uplifting attitude. It also serves as an antiseptic, disinfecting germs in the air quality of a room or home. Frankincense is cherished for its ability to bring upon spiritual awareness, supporting times of meditative practices. Soothing anxiety through slowing down and deepening our breath. Eucalyptus is known to relieve respiratory infections and loosen mucous
membranes, making it easier to breathe.
When diffusing essential oils, ensure the room has ventilation. It’s best used throughout the day, evening, or before bed.
Topical application is another way of receiving the effects of essential oils. A more skilled practice, as dilution is necessary prior to application. This is done with carrier oils, which are extracted from nuts, seeds, and kernels of a plant.
Coconut oil
Jojoba oil
Moringa oil
Argan oil
Sweet Almond oil
Rose-hip seed oil
Lavender applied topically to the bottoms of feet can aid in insomnia. Also an antiseptic, removes acne, relieves insect bites, lice, and ringworm.
Peppermint relieves headaches when applied just behind our temples (be cautious of rubbing around your eyes, as it could cause irritation and burning). Serves as a cooling, heating effect to remedy bruises, sprains, aches, or sores throughout the body.
Frankincense is anti-inflammatory and astringent, making it famous in the realm of skincare. Reduces oil build-up, skin blemishes, and promotes healthy aging of dry, mature skin.
Eucalyptus has a cooling effect, relieving muscle aches and joint pain. Helps break
down mucous membranes, making it easier to breathe..
As we’ve discovered the potency of such powerful, healing oils, we deeply
encourage to source ethically, mindfully, and with loving intention. Plants are
offerings from the Earth providing us health and wellness.
Dilution Ratios:
Essential oils are safe to use around babies after 5 months.
Ages two to six years: 1 drop of essential oil to 10 drops of Carrier oil.
Ages seven to eleven: 2 drops of essential oil to 10 drops of Carrier oil.
Ages twelve and above: 3 drops to 10 drops of oil.
Always start with a smaller dose, adding one drop of essential oil at a time.
Fur Babies (pets) vary in sensitivity. Be sure to research before the use of essential oils around your pet. Cats are allergic to certain plants, especially Lilies. These oils should not be diffused or used in their presence. Smaller doses and shorter lengths when diffusing are recommended. Salves are highly diluted and best used topically for injuries or soothing remedies on our fur babies.
Ceremonial Blend:
This roll-on recipe is made to help root us into our seat of meditation, opening our hearts, and providing clarity to our intention.
3 drops of Coconut or Jojoba oil
1 drop of Nag Champa
Find a quiet space, play calming music, light a candle, and cleanse the room with Sage or Copal. Apply these drops onto the inside of one wrist, then rub them together. Take a deep inhale and exhale, allowing the aroma to take effect. Root into your seat, set your intention for the day, and focus your awareness on your Ajna (third eye chakra) and Muladhara (root chakra).
Blessings during your ceremony.
Basic rule(s) of thumb:
Less is more. Sustainability supports our planet. Ethically source oils and plants. Wild forage, grow, and harvest when possible. Supporting locally is the best way! :)
